What is the Trust Fund?

The Trust Fund at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church was established in 1984 with a generous bequest from longtime member Louise Anderson.  The Trust Fund is designed to preserve the principal (your gifts), with a portion of the earnings used to fulfill our mission (giving aid to those in need).  Since 1985, under the guidance of the Trust Fund Committee, the Trust Fund has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the needs of the church, our local community, and missions throughout the United States and the world.

Fund Designations

The St. John Lutheran Church Trust Fund has four different funds where gifts can be designated ~

General Trust Fund

Vision: Putting our Faith in Action

The General Fund supports a variety of ministries at St. John. All trust fund gifts that are not otherwise designated, are placed in this fund.

In addition to funding extraordinary operating expenses, the fund provides for seed money and programming beyond what is included in the regular operating budget of the congregation.  Examples include Stephen Ministries, St. John’s new website set up costs, St. John Quilters, Lutheran Social Services and Summer Day Camp.

This fund also provides for mission outreach.  A portion of the General Fund provides resources for St. John to reach beyond our front door to extend God’s love to all people – both locally and globally.  Examples include AMEN Food Pantry, DVRCC, Seminary students and Harvest Home.

Congregation Ministries Fund

Vision:  Opportunities to Grow in Service to Christ

This fund allows St. John to carry out its ministry and mission beyond the operating budget, allowing the congregation to consider new and innovative programs.  Examples include youth and council retreats, the high school mission trips, Badlands Ministries camperships, mentor service projects.

Facilities Fund

Vision:  A Place to Gather in Service to Christ

The fund provides for extraordinary expenses for the maintenance, repair, alteration and replacement of real and personal property owned by the congregation.

St. John Lutheran (Dickinson) ND Tax Credit Endowment Fund

This fund allows donors to contribute to the General Trust Fund and also receive the benefit of North Dakota’s 40% state tax credit incentive.  The minimum gift amount is $5,000 per calendar year.

Grants

The St. John Lutheran Church Trust Fund provides funds to ministries, projects and organizations where the work being done is consistent with St. John’s mission.

Living in service to Christ, St. John is a caring and welcoming community whose life is grounded in Gods amazing grace and through inspiring worship. We foster deep relationships that bring a spirit of encouragement and healing to all. We believe that faith is best nurtured and grown in the home, and we encourage a culture of generosity so that we can advance the mission of the church both locally and globally.

If you would like to apply for a grant, please complete the Grant Request Form.  There is a nine member committee that meets quarterly to review grant requests.  Contact Amy Graves, the Trust Fund Director, with any questions (701.225.6747 or ).
