What is the Endowment Fund?

The Endowment Fund at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church was established in 1984 with a generous bequest from longtime member Louise Anderson.  This fund is designed to preserve the principal (your gifts), with a portion of the earnings used to fulfill our mission (giving aid to those in need).  Since 1985, under the guidance of the Endowment Fund Committee, the fund has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the needs of the church, our local community, and missions throughout the United States and the world.

Prayerful gifts to the Endowment Fund of any amount are accepted and gratefully appreciated.  Future support can also be made through estate planning or deferred gifts

Fund Designations

The GENERAL FUND supports a variety of ministries at St. John. All endowment fund gifts that are not otherwise designated, are placed in this fund.

In addition to funding extraordinary operating expenses, the General Fund provides for "seed money" and programming beyond what is included in the regular operating budget of the congregation (St. John Support).

Examples of these programs include:

St. John Quilters
Summer Day Camp
Worship Musicians

St. John corporate sponsors (Badlands Ministries St. Luke’s Nursing Home)

A portion of the General Fund also provides resources for St. John to reach beyond our front door to extend God’s love to all people – both locally and globally (Mission Outreach)

Examples of these programs include:

The COMMUNITY BRIDGING FUND provides additional resources for the St. John Endowment  Fund to build bridges into our community, helping to meet challenges facing this regional area, including:

  • a shortage in behavior & mental health services
  • overcrowding and underfunding in schools
  • strengthening of the work force within Human Services
  • needs within daycares, early parental services, and early childhood education.

Grants

The St. John Lutheran Church Trust Fund provides funds to ministries, projects and organizations where the work being done is consistent with St. John’s mission:

              "Living in Service to Christ"

If you would like to apply for a grant, please complete the Grant Request Form.  There is a nine member committee that meets quarterly to review grant requests.
