  • Now you can say you have lived through a pandemic, something I had only read about in boowjhks.
  • Now you can say your church building was locked for two and a half months.
  • Now I can say I am bit of a televangelist (without the gleaming white teeth) and we    depended on Facebook to proclaim the Gospel.

I spent four days at Pacem in Terris Hermitage in northern Minnesota in June and came to realize just how tired I was. Only by coming to a complete stop did I recognize the exhaustion of these last few months as a parent, spouse, friend, daughter, and pastor. The same is true for you. You might be exhausted by work or loneliness, health or financial worries.

Could you spend a few minutes noticing what these past few months have been like for you? How has God been with you? And what have you learned along the way? Here are some learnings of church staff members, Council members, and Guiding Team members:

  • Staff members (who have continued to meet each weekday over Zoom) missed being in the same building and stopping in each others’ offices throughout the day to collaborate on ministry. They learned the importance of doing one thing at a time, and asking for help when we need it.
  • Council members learned we are more social than we thought, this congregation is incredibly generous, and we need faith more than ever during uncertain times.
  • The Guiding Team shared renewed learning about being patient with one another, and appreciating the people in our lives. The pages of this newsletter reflect ministry that has continued throughout this season of “What Just Happened?”.

We know now, more than ever, that life is fragile and full of surprises. Yet the gift of a community of faith keeps us rooted in “the life that really is life” (1 Timothy 6:19). Each season continues to be a Season of Learning and Gratitude … grateful for the help of others, grateful for faith in uncertain times, grateful for the people whom God has entrusted to us to be Living in Service to Christ together.
