 Passage: 1 Peter 5:1-14
The author of 1 Peter closes his letter with advice to church elders to lead with-out “lording it over” others, but instead being examples, and advice to younger church members to listen to the wisdom of their elders. This is just one more example of how church communities can remain functional and benefit from the input of all members. Kids are used to being told they are too young to participate in things. Many churches don’t even realize that they are sending the message in various ways that kids aren’t full participants in community life. Help kids recognize that everyone is important in the church, no matter what their age.
Date: Sun, Jul 31, 2022             Series: Pastor Brian Knutson
 Passage: 1 Peter 4:1-19
In this chapter of 1 Peter, the author challenges his readers to “be serious” about their prayers and “above all, maintain constant love for one another.” He puts forth the idea that if we are going to speak to each other, we should do so as if we were speaking God’s words. Not that we are God or know the mind of God, but knowing that God is loving and gentle, we can be sure that mean or harsh words are not of God, and therefore shouldn’t be spoken. Kids get the idea of “mean talk” from an early age, and know the power mean words can have to hurt people. Have them think about how loving God helps them to recognize mean words before they come out.

 Passage: 1 Peter 3
1 Peter 3 continues to give advice about community living, and suffering for doing what is right. This chapter is rich with ideas like unity of spirit, sympathy, love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.

 Passage: 1 Peter 2
In the second chapter of 1 Peter, the author talks about living in community with one another. He uses the imagery of building a temple out of stones, in which the stones are the members of the community themselves. Help kids get a basic grasp of the concept of community and how they are an important part of the community of the church.
